The "Cream of Science" project Keur der Wetenschap was stated in 2005 to encourage the uploading of content to repositories. By providing simple access to the publication lists of more than 200 leading Dutch scientists and scholars, DAREnet wished to focus attention on the importance of repositories for open access to research. The result of the project was a national research showcase on the Internet, featuring more than 50,000 publications by more than 200 top Dutch scientists and scholars. Cream of Science was one of the high points of the DARE programme, drawing attention to the use of repositories to provide open access to research results. Some 25,000 full-text files were added to the existing scientific and scholarly research results in the Dutch repositories, and the project has acted as a model for a number of similar projects in other countries. Another important result is that it was established that the copyright in the digital version of publications from before 1998 is vested not in the publisher but in the author. These documents can be included in repositories without any problem. |
