Cream of Science was followed by another collection, Promise of Science, otherwise referred to as the National Dissertation Site.
The site makes it easy to find and consult tens of thousands of dissertations by Dutch PhDs.
Some 2500 dissertations are produced in the Netherlands each year, about 5% of the annual scientific/scholarly output. Dissertations are an institution's visiting card, with scientists and scholars - most of them young - presenting the most recent ideas in their discipline and providing detailed information.
In line with the National Dissertation Site, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK have collaborated on a project demonstrating that it is possible to link local collections of dissertations with one another on an international scale. The results can be found in "A Portal for Doctoral e-theses in Europe; Lessons Learned from a Demonstrator Project".
